God bless you for taking in this wonderful little friend. I can only speak for myself, but no way would he ever be returned by me to anyone who would allow him to get into that condition. I like John's advice.

i would get doctors papers on how bad condition this bird is in.. i would contact the spca. here its spca not sure what its calle d downther. show them the condition of the bird as it is now.... along with vets report. tell them you are interested in taking the bird off this guys hands and you can see by the shape it is in that he certainly isnt looking at after it and geta court orderthat transwers the bird to you........ here if you can prove of negligence you get the ball rolling.........BUT dont let it get healthy then wshow it., it needs to be seen as it is.... infected etc......

My heart is breaking right now for poor Poncho. I sure hope everything works out for him, and he's able to have another chance at a happy life.

Thanks everyone for your support.My vet can see him Wednesday unless I feel I want him seen right away.I will evaluate him today and see what action I will take.
I will not call the aspca,They are jerks here and will just come take Poncho,and I wont let that happen,They Euth birds that are not perfect,and adoptable.
I think I may call the guys rehab counsler and tell him to talk to this guy and tell him the right thing to do is to give the bird up so that he can get the proper care,If that dosen't work then well the white lie may have to come out .Thank again for all the support and will keep you posted.

Barb, I dont think the counselor will get into that with the guy. It could be cause for relapse. They will just want to get the guy well. Pancho may have been the only thing to keep that man alive. He might have lived for the bird. If he wanted to sell him for a fix that would have happened already. In his own way, he cared enough to get him to you. The care that was being given was not correct but all the man had to offer. Im not agreeing with it, I said myself he shouldnt have the bird back. Ive been thinking long and hard on this one. Maybe you could rethink things this way. Maybe the man will get well, get a job and an address, clean his act up. If he can prove that he is clean for a year, has proven to be on the right track, Pancho could go back. Lots of "ifs" but Pancho may keep that man clean. When he comes out to find he has lost his pal, he will relapse. Unless of course he realizes the bird is too much for him and he just doesnt come back for him. Im sure you will do right by Pancho. At least the guy didnt sell him for a few bucks to some idiot.

I just spoke to Poncho's owner,He informed me that Poncho has been ill with his eye for 2 years,Now that is just wrong.I told him that it is not just a eye invection,and that his prognoses may not be good,He just said oh well,That tells me he does not really care about this bird.I also told him there may be a chance he may not make it,and he still just oh well. So I will know more next Wednesday when I take him to the vet.

what a heartless person. i don't think he will be back for that sweet bird, thank god. good for you for looking after him, barb. i could just throttle people like poncho's (ex)owner.
