This is heartbreaking. I don't see you having any problem not giving him back. I can't see any judge seeing these pics, and hearing these stories letting him go back. If it does happen thats a crime.

I think he is relieved to be away from this guy, and the love you will show him will pay off. Give him a scritch and a kiss kiss from me & Pita.

Start here:

NYSHA How to Investigate Animal Cruelty in NYS Manual Table of Contents

I'd call Fish and Wildlife and the different agencies see who has the purvue. Birds may be different than dogs...

I wouldnt say why ...they might just come snatch him right up and end up somewhere worse.

Then see what your county and township laws are and who has jurisdiction. The guy might drop out of rehab or whatever so it's better to be prepared imo.

Of course if he's a junkie and leaves rehab prematurely, you can always give him money to go away at least temporarily probably...you're the better judge you met him.....also you might be able to sweet talk him into letting you "take care of him" for awhile ....he may be relieved to know he's in good hands. Hopefully.

I did call my vet and will be taking him in for a appointment, and to have everything documented.
I do not plan on letting Poncho go back to this man,I learned more information that I am not suppose to know,That this man lived outside last winter in a tent with Poncho. This will not happen again to this bird.I decided not to have him sign my boarding contract this way there is no proof the bird was even with me.
I just pray Poncho has the strength to get well so that he can feel real love in his life.
This is breaking my heart. I think more than one of us has cried after reading about Poncho, and I know many hopes, thoughts of healing and prayers go out to him. I think he needs them. God bless you for all you do.

Barb - Look at this

Mycotic keratitis is most commonly reported in horses and humans and is rarely reported in birds. We diagnosed mycotic keratitis, localized to the left eye, in an adult blue-fronted Amazon parrot (Amazona aestiva). The ophthalmic examination revealed a diffuse yellow-green haze encompassing the entire surface of the left cornea. Diffuse fluorescein uptake occurred in the entire cornea. The right eye appeared normal. Aspergillus fumigatus was isolated on conjunctival culture. The affected eye was enucleated because of the bird's discomfort and the poor prognosis for successful treatment. Histopathologic examination revealed a severe granulomatous keratitis with intracorneal fungal hyphae and corneal perforation. Multinucleated giant cells and fungal hyphae were present within the anterior chamber. Aspergillus fumigatus is an uncommon cause of keratitis in birds but should be considered as a potential cause of refractory ulcers.

Barb would never ask but if anybody wants to kick in a couple dollars for Poncho she has a paypal link on her rescue site:

OMG - that poor baby... You sure have my admiration for NOT shooting the guy on the spot.... I'd have to hold back, otherwise I'd just be calling him names, yelling at him and I see at least one gooooood punch in the face.
I have to honestly admit, that I like Nate's "idea" - I'm not a liar either, but this I'd consider a purely white lie as it allows this poor little guy to finally feel loved and well cared for

This bird looks a lot like my Pruitt

Pruitt is permanently bald on his face, his eye weeps constantly, and he has only a clear eyelid left. His eye isn't cloudy though. Pru's damage was caused
by hot oil being thrown in his face.

One other comment - if the guy leaves rehab, it will probably be very easy and cheap to buy the bird from him. 2 of my greys came from a drug addict - 200.00
a piece to save them from their life of hell, and the drug addict was thrilled...probably could have talked her down in price, but I just wanted to get outta there fast.

thank you for helping this beautiful bird

wendy

I'll keep my fingers crossed that everything goes OK for Poncho.
Yes, a little white lie would be a good thing.

Barb- I watch alot of Animal Planets "Animal Cops" & "Animal Precinct" the more pictures the better like Kelly said and a very indepth vet report to go with the exam.
Beaks- I'm right there with you
Cindy- This birds eye is not even half as bad as the poor bird I was telling you about at that pet store

Poor baby I hope everything works out for poncho, keep us updated and I pray that that guy never comes back.
