Default How Many Amazons?

I'm curious to know how many Amazons everyone thinks are necessary to awaken a neighborhood on a Saturday morning. Of course, the same question could be asked of any parrot, but my test sampling is Amazons ... so there you have it .

Having conducted extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that it really only takes one. If you choose your Amazon carefully (looking for lung power, enthusiasm and willingness for the task ), you can expect everyone within quite a radius from said Amazon to be up early on Saturdays. Rosita excels at this task (which, I suspect, is why she was given to me by her sleep-deprived previous parronts).

Extra credit can be given for creativity, but for the purposes of this research I'm focusing strictly on the ability to awaken humans.

Never have I encountered anything (lawn mowers, drag pipes on Harleys, screaming children, barking dogs) more able to pierce the dawn and jolt people awake that Rosita's early-morning vocalizations.

So ... what do you think?

LOL! I do think that one amazon is enough to awaken the neighborhood. THough I have to say my Derbyan and Yellow Collar do quite an amazing job when they get cranked up.

The good thing about us ammie owners is that we know how to roll over and go back to sleep when they decide to greet the day with joy.

rosite has competition in the form of BFA bobby.. now he is a screamer but he decides to do it at 3 or 4am and will not stop untill you go down to talk to him thru the cage for a few seconds... once that happens he's happy and you can go back to bed to finish your sleep

Though he doesn't often choose to do it, Chico can handle the job by himself. He's sort of a one trick pony when it comes to vocalizations, he squawks. However, he can vary the volume, intensity, tempo, and intonation of said squawk in such a way as to guarantee the attention of any hearing enabled being within, say 200 miles! A human talking on the telephone or leaving the room at an inopportune time has also been known to provoke a five to fifteen minute solo on his part.

So far, I've pretty much lucked out with Stella, who turned 4 years old this past April. I'm ducking now because of all the plates other amazon owners are throwing at me. LOL But it's true, Stella is not much of a screamer. She does talk up a storm first thing in the morning and that always manages to wake me. She pretty much runs through all her words, phrases and songs. Her songs do tend to get louder the longer she sings but I get such a delight out of what she's singing (it seems to take on a different variation from day-to-day). When she reaches the end, she just starts all over again!! That is, until mommy has had enough and decides to go fill Stella's food bowl. Then the only noise I hear from her is the satisfactory "amazon trill" (meaning she's very happy to see what I have given her) and yummy munching sounds.

My Joey is not a big noisy maker either. The only time he gets cranked up is when I leave the house. For some reason this well set him off. Not always but most of the time it does.

I got you all beat!
One Cag, one Tag, one Macaw, two budgies and Gems cooing.
Next door to me: Two Macaws, one Amazon, One Too.
Across the street: One Macaw.
Think my neighbors would like to buy ear plugs?
Hmm, maybe I should start selling them.
