Hi Joanie! Chico's still around, and still in a hormonal fog. The poor boy has his good days and his bad days. For the most part, we have a detente. I am allowed to give him treats through the bars, as well as scritches through the bars on his terms. I misread his mood the day before yesterday on that, and picked up another bite (still no stiches

). One thing for sure, there is no such thing as a "warning" nip with him. When he strikes, it's like a Rattlesnake, and he's going for blood!
I'm sure hormones are still playing a part, but I think I need to face the possibility that at least part of his aggressiveness is learned behavior at this point. Not sure how much I can expect to change there, can only be patient and protect body parts. Knowing very little of his past, but suspecting very little in the way of good experiences with people, his ability to trust and be "tamed" may be limited. Though I would prefer a closer relationship, I'm cool with whatever is possible in the long run.
I've noticed a couple of things that really seem to bother him, that can put him "off" for hours, or a whole day. We have a neighbor (young, male, fairly loud talker) who visits once in a while. This is guaranteed to provoke a reaction. I have approached Chico even hours after this guy has left, to be met with trembling and a flat, stony stare. The other thing I've noticed is that if the Ravens or Crows get into a shouting match nearby, he will call back to them. Again, afterwards he is all quivering and agitated for some time.
