Default What will my drive be like with the birds?

I mentioned in a previous post that my family and I will be driving from Houston to Florida (18 hours).

I curious if anyone else had driven this far with their birds. Was it non-stop distracting noise the entire time or was it bearable? I'm not worried about me - I can handle all the noise, it's others in the car I worry about especially when they are driving. Thanks.

Thanks

We drove with Kady from New York to Florida, which was a good 24+ hours, counting stops. We did take 2 days for the trip, stopping early evening to get a motel room for the night.

It was one of the most enjoyable trips I've taken. Kady didn't make any noise while we traveled. We played and watched the sites go by. We stopped every few hours for a rest and to make sure he ate and drank. He did let out a couple of good calls in the motel, but it was over before someone could say, "What the heck was that awful noise?"

I took my pionus, Max, with us on a drive to Colorado. (from Houston) He was just perfect. Pointed out all the hawks. Good luck with this!

I drove on the LA freeway with about half of my flock (maybe 25-30 little birds) and it was a hoot. Was only on the road for a few hours, but the look on the other drivers' faces was well worth the noise!

Ollie and Dakota are typically fine in the car. Dakota has only been in a car a handful of times, but he still does great- he sings most of the time, but it's not unbearable. Ollie likes to preen, eat, and chew on her toys in the car. If she does talk she whispers or says "WEEEE!" (I used to say that when she was little to warn her to hold on tight when railroad tracks or other bumps were coming up). I always keep a few almonds in my console in case she starts getting obnoxious.

Foraging toys filled with favorite treats are a good way to keep them occupied for awhile.

We've taken Oliver everywhere we go on vacation. The longest trip was from NC to NY. He travels well. The hardest part is finding the pet friendly hotels. Good luck!
