Default TAG and Flight Suit

Hi Everyone.

Who uses them? What age was your TAG when you exposed him/her to the flight suit? My breeder is not fond of flight suits so I don't think she will be able to expose him to one early on. However, when he's ready to come home that is one of the first things I plan to do.

Do you take your bird places with you? If he doesn't wear a flight suit what do you do when mother nature calls?

Thanks

Bella has an aviator harness and getting it on her is a touch and go situation. Sometimes it'll go on without a fight and sometimes she'll fight me on it but she's fine once she's out and on the go.

I take her out with me if it's possible or we'll hang out in the yard to get some sun and just enjoy the freshair. She had hers since she came home with me.

I really, really, really highly suggest getting your bird used to some kind of a harness, whether it be a flight suit, an aviator harness, or even a feather tether (which would be my last choice). You do need to start very young. I would start within the first week you bring your baby home, if the breeder won't start for you.

I do not suggest ever taking your bird outside (even if clipped) unless he's wearing a harness or is caged.

I have a flightsuit for Ollie, but I can't get it on her. We've had better luck with the aviator harness (http://www.theparrotuniversity.com/aviator.php), which a lot of people recommend. As for when mother nature calls...you carry some wet wipes, or don't take them anywhere where people are stingy about a little bird poo! I would like to be able to get the flightsuit on her for certain occasions (visiting family at their houses, etc), but it's just not to be! The aviator seems much sturdier to me, so I feel safe taking her outside in it- not sure how I would feel about the flightsuit in that regard.

I don't use a flightsuit, but Scarlett does have an aviator harness. The morning before we went to pick her up at the breeders we watched the video with all the exercises they tell you to do. We started doing those with her immediatley and I think she wore the harness the first time 3 weeks later. Definitley start working with your baby early on this. Maybe the breeder could just hang the flightsuit around her cage for him/her to get used too. But I think you said she lives far away, so maybe not.

I use an aviator harness on mine. She acts like you are killing her when you put it on, but she is OK with it once it is on. Perhaps most importantly, she knows that if she DOES put it on, she gets to go outside- a special treat! We have had her in it since she was VERY young, too- Which also helps...

Hi!!!!

The breeder does not care for flight suits. I've asked her to keep a flight suit in his sight so he can at least be half familiar with one so that when I train him to wear one he won't be totally freaked. As for a harness the breeder is all for a harness and has not problem getting him used to wearing one. What is the difference between a kaylor collar and an aviator. She can use either or. Is one better than the other. Oh, she 's also going to start potty training!!!!!!

I'M SOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!!!!!

I've never heard of a Kaylor collar...I would go with the aviator just because many people use them and really like them.

I am using the Aviator Flight suit on Bella and she is 10 weeks old.

I started getting her used to it at 8 weeks old.

When I go to see her I put it on her.

Already she is pretty used to it and I see her 3-4 times a week.

Unfortunately, I'm not not that lucky. I won't see the baby until he is weaned. I've asked the breeder to place the flight suit where he can see it.
