Default Red Palm Oil

Hello,

I've heard a lot of good things about Red Palm Oil? Does anyone give this to their birds and if so how do you administer it and in what quanity. Can someone recommend a good place to order this product?

Thank you.

Karen, I give RPO to my two GW's. Kady gets his in Birdie Bread or on Pasta and Kita gets hers by syringe.

I've purchased from; LINK: Tropical Traditions
I've made my last two purchases from; LINK: Avitec
My birds seems to prefer the Avitec brand.

This is an interesting article about a RPO study that was done with several Greys;

Article quote; The average dosage, from limited feedback on this topic, was ¼ teaspoon every other day.

Hi Karen, I think I will order some and give it a try.

Dozy's tail feather are looking pretty ragged these days. She just turned a year old. I sure bathing would help considerably. When she does bathe she doesn't get her whole self wet, just her underside. The only way she will bathe is in about an in or two of water in a baking dish on the counter in the kitchen. I tried misting her a couple times but she was afraid of the spray bottle and flew away. I also tried the shower and she flew away from that too. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help!

A good soaking shower would straighten those feathers right out, that's for sure!

I have read that Greys are not really thrilled about showers. If you do mist her you may have better luck with a MistyMate sprayer. You pump it up and turn it on and it's a continuous spray. My birds liked this much better than a spray bottle, which scared them.

Also, spray above them so the mist falls down on them, instead of spraying at them.

Have you tried taking her in the shower on your arm with you. If you took a shower with her you could shield the water at first, have lots of fun playing and singing and let her get wet little by little. You may be able to show her it's a great fun time for you both.

Edited to add; The first couple times I gave Kady a shower I got in the shower with him on my arm and he ended up taking his showers sitting on top of my head!!

I think you should put out a dish of water and vacuum your house. Some very strange reason cause birds to bath when the vacuum cleaner is heard.

Hi Karen,

Never heard of the MistyMate sprayer. I'll have to look around for one. In the meantime, I think I'll try the shower again this weekend and she if I can get her to bathe that way.

Thanks for your help!

Karen
