Try treating from the inside out. Add Red Palm Oil to the diet and walnuts. It activates the Uropygial Gland. If that is not working correctly due to diet, they will overpreen. Preening is what activates the gland. RPO is a part of the greys natural diet in West Africa. It comes from Palm Nuts that grow only in that part of the world. Try it, it really helps.

We've already order some of that, waiting for it to come in, but thank's for the idea.

Great! I would just wait for that if I were you. Its the best thing. Im sure spray on items have helped plenty of birds out there, but Im not one for it myself. Its usually something that tastes bad and thats what stops them from putting their tongue on it. I cant imagine being deprived of preening. No judgment meant to anyone that uses it though.

Actually Leigh, Feather In by Avitech is an oatmeal based spray, doesn't taste bad at all. Also, the aloe based sprays are as good internally as externally.

My question: Is red palm oil appropriate for South American birds?

I agree with sprays that are soothers. But some of the bad tasting stuff is unfair in my opinion. It seems mean.

Yes RPO in the correct amount is beneficial to all birds. The South American Birds eat different Palm Nuts as well so I would go for it! Its sold as Dende Oil.
