don't stop offering fresh foods. keep giving him a good variety and eat with him at the table. he will catch on eventually and convert to a healthier diet.

also, i just checked; that store i linked to in my last post DOES ship to turkey and the prices seem reasonable.

Another thing I wanted to add. Stressed birds pluck as an addiction also. The act of the feather being pulled releases an endorphin which is almost like a pain reliever or a "high" they get addicted.

Basics of Featherpicking

After living in a attic, I think I would pluck too. Maybe all he needs is time in addition to diet change.

He looks real good after such a short time. You may want to give him books or paper to shred. Don't worry about pellets, I feed very little only enough so that the babies recognize it as food. A fresh or cooked diet is by far the best. He may like to try corn on the cob or cut into wheels, dried, fresh or cooked. While too much corn is not good, I have found it to be a good transition food that they eat. Frequent baths or misting will help him learn how to preen without feather destruction.

I know your frustration. I have a Macaw that refuses to eat any fresh. I like you, offer it everyday though.

He looks so much better now! So you are definitely enriching his life so that he is allowing some feathers to remain.

I am a little bit concerned about the cage. Did the cage come with the bird or is it new to him since coming to your home?
