Unhappy pellets

Hey guys,

I'm getting concerned with Gracie not eating her pellets. I'm not sure what to do. She simply refuses to eat her Zupreem teil size pellets. I tried the parrot sized kind as well. I just bought a kind of pellets called Exact and she won't eat them either. Suggestions on what kinds to try??? What should I do?

Sorry Kris... Mine think they are paper weights, never had much success with pellets, and I have stopped trying and gone completely fresh. Bump up the fresh offerings. Keep offering them from time to time, perhaps it is just a phase. Good luck

Same here. Mine would eat pellets, but I've seen them do much better on an all fresh diet. You can try cooking foods for her too. Maybe hiding them in muffins or waffles?

Ruby only will eat them now as a last ditch, "I am bored to tears" effort. I think after this big bag I am on, I will just quit wasting money. She eats really well and gets lots of fresh veggies, etc.

The pellets I give are only decorations and soup ingredients, fresh is way better.

Jazz is absolutely horrible when it comes to food! The only thing he gobbles is the harrisons mash mixed with oatmeal and i have to spoon feed it to him twice a day but atleast i know he is getting some good in his diet. He will eat apples, walnuts and orange juice but i keep the latters at a min because of the sugar. I want to try not giving him anything but pellets for a couple days but i hate thinking that he is hungry especially when he goes to bed. I do mix things in with the mash such as brocolli sprouts and such

I know how frustrating it can be. Dozy just recently started eating better (she just turned 1 on May 30th).

Dozy is not crazy about pellets but I will find her nibble on them from time to time so I always make them available for her. Once a week I chop veggies - carrots, sweet potatoe, all kinds of hot peppers, green pepper, brocolli, zuchinni, yellow squash, corn, raddishes, some type of leafy green, etc I mix 1/2 tsp or so of the red palm oil on her veggies and serve it to her in the evenings when I get home. I think the red palm oil is the trick - she loves it and will eat it from the spoon if I let her. She also likes to try whatever it is that I am eating so I will share a teaspoon or so with her after she has had her veggies.

In the morning she has sprouts and all day she has pellets with dried veggies and fruits until I get home and give her her fresh veggies. Have you tried the red palm oil. I really thing it helps Dozy eat better. Good luck.

I'm not even sure what red palm oil is. Where can I find it? Is it really healthy?

Yes, it is but it's no substitute for a healthy diet. It has a lot of beta-carotene but that only supplements the bird with vitamin A and birds need many more vitamins and minerals than just vit A.

My birds (except for the tiels who love the crappy fruity pellets and get them once every three months as a very special treat) don't like pellets. I don't switch brands around as the only one I would feed is TOP because they are organic and have no cheapo stuff like sunflower seeds and peanuts and, most importantly, no soy beans in them (all the others do). But I don't worry because they do love their gloop and get fresh veggies and fruits every day.
