Default Latest visit

My breeder says Oliver is still feeding two times a day and will probably not wean until sometime in June. This is taking a long time. I can wait, however long, but I really want to bring him home so that I can be me self around him. Right now my breeder sits directly across from me each visit, and I am just not comfortable acting goofy or baby talking to Ollie with her right there. She also has him in a rusty cage and I want him to have a nice new cage when he gets home A.S.A.P.

My breeder takes good care of the birds but some of her methods are questionable.

I definitley know the feeling of "supervised visits", like you are being watched and you can't act like yourself or play with the baby that much. Plus the breeder usually wants to talk and you just want to talk to your baby that you have been thinking of all week. And June is not that far away, your baby will be home before you know it! I am sorry your breeder has questionable practices. Have you said anything to her? The rusty cage would concern me, that definitley isn't safe, especially for a clumsy Grey baby.

A two times day feeding is questionable if weaning is still 4 weeks plus away. Is the breeder not maybe being cautious and will be keeping Oliver 1 or 2 weeks past weaning? It is not a good idea to take the baby until at least a week after weaning. Feeding should only be dropped to twice a day when the baby is taking in a fair amount of other food. Over feeding only twice a day if the baby is not taking in enough other food causes the crop to stretch, and can delay weaning.

My breeder feeds Ollie pellets that I brought along with cooked food that brought. Oliver eats in his cage but not enough, so he still needs formula twice a day. My breeder also said she likes to wait 2 full weeks after the bird is weaned.

The cage is so rusty, it looks like it was left out side for a year.

Have you mentioned your concern about the cage to her?

This sounds good

Rusty cage does not seem so good.

No, I pretended like I didn't notice. I don't like that she does not keep her equipment in good condition, but she does seem to provide adequate care with all other areas of breeding. She is obviously cheap when it comes to cages.
