#1 | | | I'm getting good at doing things left handed.... Harrison is going through another stage...I guess it's a stage...maybe not. ?? When she's out of her cage, which is usually when I'm home from work, she has to be with me at all times. Believe me, I'm happy it's not the opposite...I'd be crushed if she wanted nothing to do with me. However, I hold her in my right hand and try to do things around the house with my left hand. Sometimes I can set her down just long enough (about 3 seconds) to do something that needs two hands...like unscrew a lid...Now, I'm certainly not in denial...I know I'm letting her do this...I just have such a hard time saying no to her. My husband made this thing to wear around my neck...she can stand on it...it hits my stomach around my belly button...I'll take a picture of it one of these days...anyway, Harrison is not too thrilled with new things so I've been "playing" with it....laughing...rubbing my face on it today...all of a sudden I hear "Whasthat?". Holy cow...Well, I answered her...told her what it was while thinking "am I crazy or did she really say that and mean that!!???...should I stop explaining this?"...then I stopped talking and was just looking at her for a few seconds...kinda starring at her. What does she say?...she says "WHAT?!" Oh jeez! So, Am I spoiling her by allowing her to hang with me instead of hanging on her perch? Several times a day, I go to put her on her perch and she won't let go of my finger and I give in...there are times I have to peel her fingers off of mine. |

So, for her sake, do try to 'balance' things out a bit so she doesn't suffer unnecessarily later on when something she had come to take for granted is taken away from her. A portable perch you can carry with you from room to room and putting her on it, sitting next to you while you work with both your hands for a few minutes at a time every now and then until she gets used to it is the right thing to do. It's very flattering when a bird loves us so much but it's not good for them to become absolutely dependent on our love. | This is what I was afraid of. This is exactly what I was hoping wouldn't happen by me letting her hang with me all the time. Thanks for your honesty Beatriz Cazeneuve... I'll get that picture of the "thingy" up today |
