Default food being tossed from her crop?

Happy Holidays Everyone!

I just noticed Dozy shaking her head and little pieces of food flying out of her beak. It looks like food from her crop? Can someone tell me what this means?

Thank you.

If she has just eaten she may be cleaning her beak. If she is nodding first up an down she could be regurgitating but this is usually directed at a person, toy or other bird. I can't remember how old Dozy is, regurgitating is something teenage (puberty) birds do, not very young birds.

Hi. Dozy is 7 months on the 30th of this month. We were driving in the car and it had been a while since she had eaten.

Thanks

Sometimes parrots get food caught up in their throat before it gets to the crop. Eve does this when he eats nuts, he get so excited that he forgets to break up the nuts better before swallowing, and he will shake his head from side to side in an order to dislodge the offending nut.

Ok. So it sounds pretty normal and nothing serious. Thanks

It sounds like she may have gotten car/motion sick. You can try giving her some fresh ginger root slices or steeping a tea with fresh ginger root slices. Ginger is a peppery tasting treat that prevents motion sickness in most birds.

Kady used to get car sick. When we went to Florida. I made a Ginger Tea for him and offered him several sips right before we left home and some more during stops on the trip and he didn't get sick at all.

Herbs, such as ginger are great for car sickness. I do believe Karen is right.

Poor baby. I'll try the Ginger Tea next time we venture out in the car. Thanks.

I had a pionus that just loved to car travel but sometimes she would get carsick. It sounds like that is what is happening to me.

Sounds like car sickness. They bob their heads up and down when they're regurgitating (which Ollie started doing well before she was 1 year old- it's a sign of affection, that can start at a very young age), and side to side when they're sick.
