Ok. I will not leave veges in her bowl all day. I will leave a bowl full of mixed pellets. Can I also leave a bowl of sprouts there all day as well or is that risky too? Is the warm meal with Beak Appetit, pasta, rice or bean and the veges (if she'll eat them) when I get home ok? I'll will also offer fruits.

I would welcome any suggestions for healthy meals while I'm gone all day.

What about seeds? Arent't seeds treats and not food?

Thanks everyone. It is great to have all this support!!!

Ollie was horrible. I actually weaned her from formula to seeds just to get her "weaned", then introduced the pellets and slowly removed the seeds. The hardest (and most expensive) part was just finding a pellet that she would eat.

Since you can't leave fresh foods in her cage all day while you're at work, you would just always have pellets available. You still want her to eat fresh, and it's great that she's already doing that, so you don't want to offer her less of that. Just only offer her the fresh when you can remove it no more than 3 hours later. Try eating (or pretending to eat, although they're very perceptive) the pellets in front of her. Make Mmmming sounds. I think in your case the best way is to just have them with her all day while you're gone. She'll get hungry and get curious. Try putting the sprouts in the bowl with the pellets. Ollie eats Zupreem Fruitblend, tiel sized. However, I'd try the natural (without artificial flavoring) first. I think for Ollie, having all the colors made the food more interesting to her.

Sprouts are fine. No fresh fruits/veggies or cooked foods, like beak appetit, pastas, etc for more than 3 hours. Feed those when you're home. Stuff for during the day- pellets, nuts, Lafeber's avicakes (Ollie's favorite), nutriberries, etc...anything dry. Make that stuff into foraging activities- wrap up nutriberries/nuts in coffee filters and tie them to a toy, etc.

I won't get into the seeds vs pellets debate. I feed pellets, no seeds except in her avicakes and nutriberries.

Good idea. I didn't think about trying to give Dozy my tiel's pellets. My tiel doesn't eat pellets either but I keep trying and haven't found one yet that she likes.

Thanks.

No, don't call her a klutz. There is no such thing as a clumsy bird, if they have questionable episodes of grace impairment, it is always our fault for not providing the ideal environment and never their lack. And she is a cutie, no doubt about it. Congratulations!

I also have a Timneh, her name is Pooka (for the Irish boogey man who is supposed to be very dark and her being so much darker than the Congos) but we call her Pookie and she calls herself Pookie Kabukie (don't ask me where she got that from because I don't know). She used to talk (mostly bad words) in a man's voice so I guess she must have been raised by one (she was found lost in the playground of a high school in Staten Island and brought over to Animal Control from where I got her) and was very aggressive (thus the bad words) but she is fine now and the poor thing still prefers men over women even though she only sees my husband once every three months or so (he doesn't like going into the birdroom).

And good for you and your bird for figuring out that flighted is so much better than clipped! I don't know whether you have previous experience with birds or not but, if you haven't, you are going in the right direction. Just please be careful with her schedule and don't keep her up too late.

She's so cute! I agree, I think being clipped can put a bird into mroe danger than safety; I know it has proven that way for mine. She looks so happy and well adjusted- and I love the purple birdie diaper!
