Default Dozy in new cage in car

Hello,

In a previous post I attached a photo of the cage I bought Dozy for our trip to Florida.

The cage has been sitting where Dozy can see it and I tried putting her inside her new cage and taking her for a ride in the car. She does well except that instead of perching on her Comfy Perch she climbs all over the sides and top of the cage sometimes hanging like a bat-lol. I don't know if she feels she has a better grip by hanging on the bars of the cage rather than sitting on the perch. Sometimes she will climb around in circles on to top of the cage (don't know what that's about). I've furnished the cage with some of her favorite toys and some of her favorite treats but she doesn't seem interested. I take her in her cage for a ride in the car about 2-3 times a week so she can get used to it. Is this normal behavior and do you think she'll calm down eventually? Is there anything I can do to make her more relaxed while in her travel cage in the car?

Thank you.

Karen she most definitely will. You're doing all the right things for her to enjoy her trip. In addition to the car trips I also would put her in her travel cage to eat and to play while you're at home. Put some toys in there for her. Just be sure to anchor them top and bottom so they don't swing around when you're traveling. At least one soft toy on all sides will cushion her if she gets off balance from sudden turn, stop or start. Play some music and dance with her while she's in there, so she learns to relax and play.

Karen's advice about putting her in the cage while you're at home is really good.

She'll eventually calm down. Sometimes Ollie climbs all over her travel cage like that too. I think she does it more out of excitement than nerves.

Thanks everyone, I'll continue to put her in her travel cage while at home and taking her for car rides. I have all of May, June and part of July to condition her for the trip!

Thanks!

She will do great! I just know it! Sounds like you are going to make it fun for her. My birds have always acted "funny" in their car cages. I think it is from the excitement and all.
