Hello,

As everyone knows, Dozy turned a year old in May. I noticed that she has a lot of pins feathers coming in around her neck area and occassionally I'll see a lost feather hear and there. Is she going thru a molt? Her feathers look like she's going thru a molt but it has been going on for a good 3 weeks alreay. How long will this last? When I try to bathe her she only gets her belly and chest wet, nothing else. I'll try to use a spray bottle on her and as soon as she sees the bottle she flies away. Any suggestions how I can get her to bathe and wet her entire body? I've taken her in the shower with me but I know she gets scared but she does get good and wet. I know a good bath will help lots!

Hi there! Sure sounds like a molt to me! Somebody's going to get pretty new feathers!!! Have you ever tried to bath her outside? Gipper loved to and Ruby does to. They seem to really get into it out there. Also my Max would bath in his own water dish each time I ran the vaccum. Might try that. I have heard of other birds getting revved up by the sound. Are you all going on vacation soon?

Well, is Dozy eating/getting a lot of seed and/or protein? Winkie was having a bad molt at the wrong time, I cut out all seed & he stopped getting new pin feathers in.

Is this about the right time for her to molt? I would love to bathe her outside but she's flighted. Never tried the vacuum trick-hmmm..

Yes, we are leaving the first week in July. I'm a little nervous mostly because my oldest daughter who has her learner's permit will be helping to drive - YIKES!!!! I'm not a very good passanger at all!!! I also worry that Dozy will make her usual loud noises and be a distraction to her and my husband. I can handle it but I'm not sure about them. On the other hand the last time I had Dozy in the car she made me and my youngest daughter crack up. She and I were laughing about something and Dozy started laughing along with us. We just looked at each other and started laughing hysterically. It she can do that a good part of the trip it will be really fun.

The only time she eats seed is with her nightime dish. I give her about a tsp. I don't think she is getting too much protien. I hope it is the right time for her to be molting. Thanks

Oh gosh...It seems Boca is always molting. Had to move her away from the french doors. If Dozy is anything like Boca, he doesn't get totaly wet no matter what I do. Yes, the vacuum works every time, at least with Libby.

I wonder if jazz gets any sleep! Every morning there are quite a bit of his down(?) feathers and loads of dust. At first i was worried he might be plucking but everthing looks fine. He turned one april 4th. I still am having trouble getting him to eat different things. I hand feed him ground harrisons mash with a little oatmeal and usually slip in brocolli sprouts or fruit. He eats that very well
