Default Dozy

Hi Everyone!!

Good news!!!! Dozy is coming home this weekend. I'll be making the 5 hour trip (each way) on Saturday the 22nd to go get her!!!! I'm really, really excited.

Any tips on making her transition a little easier?

Congratulations! I bet you are so happy and excited. If you are putting her into a small cage for the trip home I would suggest keeping the back half of it covered that way she can only see forward so the cars on the roads don't scare her. Talk to her during the trip and reassure her that everything is okay. Depending on what type of vehicle you have you could put the cage or carrier on the seat next to you. Bring some millet or maybe some apple slices for her to chew on during the ride home. I can't wait to see some pictures, once again congratulations on the arrival on your new baby!!!

I have one cage and a carrier. The carrier is bigger and she would only be able to see out the front. I able to set it up so that there is a perch in there so I may use the carrier. The cage is small and open on all sides. Great Idea of the millet and apple slices! Thanks

I second what Deb said...lots of moisture rich foods to snack on the way home. You can buy food dishes that will mount on the inside grill of the carrier. I don't know how Wendy does pick ups, but Minerva, who was shipped, had plenty to eat including sprouts.

You might want to mount a perch toward the front of the carrier but you'll have to poke holes in the sides to do it. Put a towel in the bottom for absorption. Toss some foot toys in there to keep Dozy occupied.

I know we all think African Grey, fragile, sensitive, be careful transitioning her...and I suppose some of that is true, but Minerva was a lot less stressed than I was. A TAG hanging upside down in the carrier twisting her head off to see me was not what I was expecting. lol She was a lot more resiliant than I was expecting. So, remember to relax and enjoy!

I'm so excited for you!
