We traveled 5 hours with our Buffons when we picked her up from the breeders and brought her home. She did very well. The breeder also delivered Pebbles, our Hy and during a 10 hour drive she did well. If your bird is frightened easily it could be a long trip. Majabirds just traveled with her flock for 5 hours during her move. Maybe she can chime in.

Hi Big Blues. Thanks for your response. I am very encouraged. Dozy is pretty easy going. I think that as long as she hears and sees me she'll be fine. Thanks again.

Hi Wordy!

When I moved from St Louis, MO to Tampa, FL we had 3 birds to travel with. All of them did very well actually. We were in the car about 16 hours or so total, we had to stay overnight in Georgia though. Anyway, the only time they got upset was when it suddenly POURED RAIN, I think it was visuals on top of all the noise, they weren't used to rain looking like it would hit them hehe.

My birds really didn't like to eat TOO much unless we were at a rest stop, and definitely no drinking unless we were. So if you do travel with them, keep an eye out on their water consumption. Good luck!

We travel with Maple and Harley ALL the time and they do great in the car. Like some others have said, they don't really eat or drink much on the move so keep an eye on that. harley got car sick once ... poor little guy....but Daddy had just gone over a very hilly/bumpy road. It's never happened since. My two love to travel, and love when they get to the destination and have everyone oogling over them, and checking out the new digs!

Hi Maplebird!

Do you know if you stop to rest (not overnight) if they would eat or drink a little somethig.

Mine do! Even when the car is stopped. Mine are so used to travelling that if they get hungry enuff they will munch on stuff in the car...like birdie bread or nuts. I keep a little round container of water in the cupholder just in case they decide they want to drink. Every time we stop for any reason....bathroom break...gas, whatever...I offer them food and water. I think it all depends on the bird.

I don't like leaving water in Winkie's cage, cause it always spill, so I make sure to have plenty of cut-up fresh veggies that I know he likes in an icebox w/ cold pack & pellets in a bag. Since he's so small that makes it easier tho. I have a water bottle; so when I do offer him water - after Winkie's finished I can put it right back in the icebox.
Generally I have broccoli, carrots, corn kernels, peas, apple & a paring knife for slicing the carrots - occasionally green beans. Also Nutriberries & small things of millet in jars or bags.
Winkie's been on 10+ hr trips with no ill effects. As long as he has me & his cage he is happy.

Yes, think about taking their favorite food and their usual water bowl. Since they are in an unusual place, they can at least recognize their toys, food and water bowl, and of course the most important thing is YOU. Sing to them, play music on the radio and have some fun!
