Default Cage Cleaning

Hi Guys,

I don't know if this is the proper place to talk about this.

Does anyone use a steamer to clean/sanitize their cage? I am interested in hearing about and seeing pictures of models used. Is it a steam cleaner like you would use on your carpets or something else? Are they expensive and where did you get yours? Is this all you do to clean/sanitize your cage?

Thanks everyone!

I sometimes clean the cage with a pressure washer. I am sure a small steam cleaner that has a jet of steam will work just as well.

I want to buy this cleaner, it works great for cleaning a bathroom with zero chemicals.

I don't use a steam cleaner. When it needs a really good cleaning I take it outside and wash it with the hose.

I use my teeth and fingernails to get the poop off...

Just kidding.

There's a few brands of steam cleaners that get good customer reviews. I used to clean Kady's cage with a Shark Steamer (doesn't get great reviews), but I don't use it anymore. I have heard pros and cons of using steam cleaners for cages.

How many times have we watched the infomercials for the steam cleaners and see the food or grime being blown right off the item being cleaned? The debris then has to be wiped up. So I feel the Con of cleaning a cage with a steamer would be if there is dried poop on the cage the steam cleaner will break it off and send the particles flying into the air, which I don't feel would be healthy.

I'm not sure how good they are at sanitizing. I can't remember the temperature of the steam. I prefer to wash them down with Vanodine.

My cage breaks down enough where I can clean the dirtyest parts without having to take the cage outside. My bottom grate comes out as well as the sliding trays. The only thing I can't clean at the sink is the cage sides which don't get soiled any way and a damp cloth is all that I use to clean the sides. Those cages with a built in bottom grate would need to be rolled out side and hosed.

I'm so glad I got a cage that has removeable grates.

I have the grate that slides out too so that will be easy. Glad to know that I won't have to take it apart. Cool! Thanks
