p.s I would hold off on pizza for awhile. Get her used to "working" foods meaning beneficial foods she needs to build strong muscles, bones and organs. Fun foods just get in the way.

Cindy your remarks are noted, but do you realize that parrots are generally opportunistic in nature and do get to eat animal protein, maybe p'letts do not. Also I do not know of any pellet tree out there in nature so why would pellets need to be a basic foodstuff? I do realize that feeding pellets is a good way to get the required trace elements into a diet. I know of many who do not feed pellets at all due to the negative long term impact on the various internal organs, most especially dehydration issues, most often seen in the more long lived species. I choose to feed my birds a varied balanced, to the best of my ability, fresh diet with very little seed, and pellets only for play value. I do add as per the vet supplement minerals, vitamins, calcium and spirulina.
I see no harm and only benefit in allowing the bird to eat eggs or pizza crusts or anything else non toxic human food as a way to teach the bird to eat a large variety of items. In nature with all the seasons he would be getting a very varied diet, and yes there will be times of the year when he will even get his fill of only seeds.

Cindy215-

Trust me, we are feeding our TAG a VERY well balanced diet. Rest assured that we (klamb and I) know how to take care of our TAG just as well as anyone. Just because klamb says that she (Gracie) had eggs for breakfast doesn't mean eggs are the staple thing in her diet.
