I've seen the sight or sound of a fly literally drive him out of bed, or prevent him from getting into bed and he'll go sleep in the hallway or another room for a while. Then again, there are times when he doesn't seem that bothered, but I question whether it isn't just because he doesn't always notice them.
Perhaps there are times when there isn't a fly there at all, is that's what you're getting at? These "fly" incidents are very different in nature from his full blown seizures though, and have never (to my knowledge) been followed by a full blown seizure. | Poor guy, Thank your for taking him in as a senior. I have a little experience with this. Do you know of Dr Dodds? You can google her she's good and pretty famous. I always had my full panel thyroids sent to her. There's alot of her stuff online. (he's had his thyroid checked, right?)
You didnt happen to change foods quickly with the dog food poisoning episode did you?
Interesting he had multiples when he changed homes then nothing for a year and a half till now. That's why I was wondering about the food if it was changed then and now. Since abrupt food changes are precursors.
The thing with the flies is so sad isn't it? The last dog I knew with epilepsy was a combination of emotional stress and dehydration (long story). His housemate was gravely ill with Megaesophagus when he started them and after he died he never seized again. Sometimes you never know the "why's" of it. But water in his case was definitely a factor. |

I also heard raisins aren't good for them either. |

Those I guess are the worst ones. I knew raisins were bad, but I never heard that nuts were toxic to dogs and I have had dogs all my life. I felt so dumb when I found that out... |

We thought our little yorkie Sophie was having seizures. We took her into the vet had blood work and neurological tests ran. They found nothing.
I did some research myself and found out that dogs are extremely allergic to nuts and that they cause hindend muscle tremors. I called the vet back and told her what I found. And she said, "I forgot that you said you had birds, I didn't think about Sophie getting into the nuts they drop!"
I was banging my head into the wall at this point. 200 dollars at the vet and I figured the problem out myself!
I hope Buddy is feeling better. The muscle tremors scared us, I couldn't imagine having to watch our dog have an actual seizure. Sorry you have to go through this. I wish the best for Buddy and You! | Interesting about the nuts. Don't think he's gotten into any, though could have picked up crumbs from the birds. Quote:

The way these things work, its pretty hard to tie down a cause for one episode, when its still not very well understood what causes them to begin with. As I said, once its over, it doesn't seem to bother him at all. Just hard to watch, and boy does time drag when he's having one. They never last very long (a minute or two) but it sure seems like a long time. |
