Default Twelve Osprey's

Ruby and I were sitting outside this afternoon. It is a picture perfect day. Low 70's, not a cloud in the sky. We looked up and there were 12 osprey's flying overhead. They weren't in any hurry. Just soaring and gliding. This is the first year I have seen them here. Twice I have seen them dive in the lake and come out with a fish! I have only seen 2 or 3 at a time though. At first I think they are eagles, which we see occasionally. Then you see the "bend" in the wings. Simply amazing to see 12at once!

Awesome! What a privilege to be able to see 12! I've seen a couple up at a reservoir near here.

They are spectacular birds. There has been a nest near the highway where I pass on the way home from work every year for the last five years or so. Never saw that many at once though, I wonder if they gather together to migrate back north?

Where does your love for Ospreys come from? I hadn't seen them until last year. They are amazingly beautiful birds. They dive into the lake next to us and catch fish!

Actually, it's kind of a funny story. When I was very young, a local store had these crazy awesome plastic model birds and sealife (note my diver down background on the sig ). They sat upon plastic pegs, as if in flight (or swimming, but back to birds). They were labeled with the animal's name, scientific name, and they had a heat sensor on them.. so when you touched it, it played the animal's cry

For no good reason, I was fascinated by the osprey. I hadn't ever seen one, living in the midwest (they are VERY rare there). It wasn't until I started looking around on our trips to Florida did I get to see one in real life. I have studied them since I am blessed to have one that visits the pond next door now that I live in Florida!

Besides.. they're the only bird of prey with an opposable toe (which they use to catch those fish you see, by the by!). If nothing else, that makes them completely awesome!
