Actually, it's kind of a funny story. When I was very young, a local store had these crazy awesome plastic model birds and sealife (note my diver down background on the sig

). They sat upon plastic pegs, as if in flight (or swimming, but back to birds). They were labeled with the animal's name, scientific name, and they had a heat sensor on them.. so when you touched it, it played the animal's cry
For no good reason, I was fascinated by the osprey. I hadn't ever seen one, living in the midwest (they are VERY rare there). It wasn't until I started looking around on our trips to Florida did I get to see one in real life. I have studied them since

I am blessed to have one that visits the pond next door now that I live in Florida!
Besides.. they're the only bird of prey with an opposable toe (which they use to catch those fish you see, by the by!). If nothing else, that makes them completely awesome!
