Default Rose Breasted Grosbeak

This guy was hanging out on the Lilac bush the other day. Definitely one of the showiest of the various Grosbeaks, with a beautiful song as well. We hear them a lot very early in the morning right around daybreak. They have a trilling, warbling sort of song that goes on and on. Haven't gotten a good shot of a female yet. They look totally different in color, similar to a female purple finch only larger, all light and dark brown stripes.

Great photos Nate. I'm learning what birds are in my yard from your photos. Thanks for posting!

One of my favorite birds, but they don't really visit the feeders that often, so we hear them much more than we see them. I think I saw a Blue Grosbeak a few years back. We're not in their range, but it was right after a tropical storm had blown up through and we speculated that it might have blown him up with it. He was only around for a day or so.
