Default I bought feeders & bird bath today!

I've been wanting to better observe our wild local birds so today I bought 2 feeders and a hanging bird bath. One feeder is for small birds, like finches & chickadees. It's pretty standard and has a wire cage around it to keep the squirrels out and I bought a wild bird seed mix.

The other feeder is a Suet feeder - now I know nothing about this stuff yet but it sounded cool when the woman at the wild bird store was telling me about various things. So this feeder is an upside down feeder, it has a little wooden roof with wooden sides and the suet block goes in and there's a wire thing on the bottom.

I hung both feeders on a big tree in our front yard and a stinking squirrel has already figured out the Suet feeder!! I haven't hung the hanging bath yet because I'll need Dave to help me with that (he's gone all day). But I have it all together and ready to go, so hopefully we'll hang it tomorrow.

You will LOVE IT! We have so many birds in our yard. We enjoy every moment of them being here.

I am excited! I haven't been into the local birds until recently. The other day we see little tiny birds on one of our trees and we have no idea what they are. They have very pretty striped yellow tails. I feel like a ditz cause I barely know what any of the local birds are except the robins, blue jays, and cardinals.

Don't forget to seed the grass for the ground feeders. I love watching the Dove. They come right up to me. Also a shallow container of water on the ground.

That's a fun thing to do. Around here you see a lot of that in people's side or front yards.

Don't worry about the squirrel - he needs it too [IMO] & there are only a few feeders that will deter them. There is one that will close if the weight is too heavy.

You'll have to give us some photos when its all set up.

You can also get a squirrel baffle. And leave some corn out for them they should leave the feeders alone.

Ruby's and my favorite thing to do is sit outside each morning and watch the birds come to eat. I will sometimes have as many as 50 or more at a time! Enjoy! They love the bird bath also!

The ground got quite a good sprinkling with seed today since I spilled quite a bit trying to hang that feeder

I'll try to take some photos once the birds give them a try. We do throw stuff out on the lawn for the squirrels - I just don't want them eating ALL of the birds' food lol. The squirrels around here look pretty fat

I'm wondering if we can move the Suet feeder onto the overhang on our house near the window (once the birds are comfortable feeding from it). I think it'll have to be moved anyways since the only branch I could manage to get it on looks fairly wobbly.

A couple years ago we had one of those squirrel proof feeders that closes with their weight but it broke fairly quickly. I saw it again today but didn't get it because of that past experience. I'm excited about the bird bath though, I've never had one of those. I hope they like that it hangs, it looked unqiue to me instead of a heavy one that stands up - and I know how much my guys love their hanging stuff.

I didn't think about that Even if it's in a ways from the eaves trough? Probably wouldn't prevent them from trying to check it out

I want the birds to eat from the feeders - I'm impatient LOL. I haven't seen a single bird even come close yet (I know they have to get used to them though). At least they haven't fallen down yet lol.
