Default Gulls

A nice day up where I am at in Northern Michigan (Traverse City), So I went for a walk on the beach. Seagulls are so common, we often overlook them- But they are actually pretty interesting and good-looking birds!! They also are a challenge to photograph properly- it is HARD to get a good exposure with white feathers... Here are a few shots from today-

Canon Rebel XT, Canon 100-400 (L) IS lens-

This guy had his own 'boat'- A nice floating chunk of ice that was right off the beach!

Mmmm... Fresh Chubb.

Coming in for a landing... I wish I'd have put the polarizer on for this one, to eliminate the glare in the water....

He has a determined look on his face...

It was a great day, though the afternoon light was a little harsh. Best day so far up north, though. I can't complain!!

Yup, white birds, black dogs, high contrast landscapes.....the list goes on! You did a nice job with these, Andrew! What are you, on a great lakes run?

I love Gulls. nice photos. [pssst these are Gulls - not Pigeons ]

Maybe a filter will help with the glare on their white. Or try for a grey day or low light, like in the morning.

Thanks...

Nate- Yes, I am on the Great Lakes. Mostly Lake Michigan this time of the year.

Jac- I often use a circular polarizer if the conditions warrant it, but didn't have it with me this day, I was trying to travel light (or as light as possible with that bazooka of a lens!)
