Default Eastern Bluebirds

This beautiful pair started a nest in the box along the backyard fence a few days ago. Unfortunately, something must not have been just right, because they apparently abandoned the attempt. For one whole day though, she hauled nesting materials, and he sat around and supervised. First time in eight years we've had a Bluebird pair near the house. Good news, since it probably means they are increasing in the area. They generally prefer open field land, and we're sort of nestled in the woods. I'm going to move the nest box so its a little further away from the house, that may have been the problem. It also might have been that she decided there were too many Red Squirrels hanging around the yard. I'm sure they wouldn't hesitate to engage in a little egg thievery!

Great! The 1st one is perfect. The 2nd one is very beautiful.
I hope they try again - have you found a good spot for the 2nd location?

I know you've probably been asked before - you have a 'telephoto' lens on that camera? - what is it?

Oh my! How beautiful they are! When we lived in New Orleans we were north of the lake there in Mandeville and each February we would get these birds in for a while. I just adored them and my neighbor got them to nest once in a bird box on her deck. I miss them here. We also would see painted buntings there once in a while. Thanks for showing us! Ruby says "step-up!"

Great shots- The second is outstanding!

We have them in our backyard at the new house in Tennessee- Another reason that I can't wait to get moved in!

Now I know why you are moving, Andrew.
Wish we did get them down here.
