We mainly leave up the nyjer thistle feeders for the summer as we have a very healthy goldfinch population. As for the other kinds of seed, we leave off feeding those during the summer - most years anyway. Last year we kept feeding & by late summer there was a fledging cardinal that would sit on the feeder for HOURS, squawking for mom or dad to feed it. It got a little annoying when we tried to eat, but mostly we just laughed.

Our feeders remain full enless we are washing them.
It is important to wash the feeders.

We feed year round also, I love it tho when it gets warm. We have tons of birds out in the yards, grackles, starligs, red-winged blackbirds, purple martins, doves, sparrows, cardinals, bluebirds (wish they'd nest in OUR yard tho!), wrens, hummingbirds, orioles, cedar waxwings, several types of woodpeckers, that's all I can think of right now. There's been others but they aren't seen often enough! Once the hummingbirds show up, we've got about 14 feeders outside going. It's not easy keeping them filled all the time but it's worth it to see the diversity of birds that show up!
