Default Biting at harness/flightsuit???

Good morning everyone!

I'd like to know if anyone has been able to stop their fids from chewing on the harness/flightsuit material once the suite/harness has been put on them?

Dozy is a real trooper in that she will tolerate me putting both on her without too much of a problem. Once the harness/suit is on she starts to chew and bite at the material. From what I can tell there is nothing to indicate why she does this. It appears to fit fine - not too loose or too tight.

I am currently using a Kalor Collar. Perhaps I could try another type collar.

Has anyone tried the Kalor Collar and do/did you have this problem? Have you tried another collar?. If so, has that worked better?

Thanks
Karen

Wish I had answer for that one! When my G2 Afa was a baby we got one for her. We got it on her, and took her out for a walk. Halfway around the block she proudly displayed that she did a Houdini and got out of it! We stopped trying. Im thinking to try it on my Ekkie hough.

Hi Grandma

I have a tiel that WILL NOT let me put one on her. It is a real battle with her. At least I can get Dozy in one. I wish I could figure out why she insists on biting the material. When she's outside she does better because of all the distractions but I constantly worry about her chewing her way out one day.

Hi Leighrivera, OMG!!!! I hope you were able to get her back? I would think that Dozy associates the harness with going outside but I guess not I'll keep trying.

I hope it improves - many can wear them OK & many do not. I hope as time goes by the harness is just one of those things that says 'walkies'. Your bird might eventually bring it to you!

I'm in the same boat right now. I can get the harness around the neck and then it's YOU'RE KILLING ME! My bird is a big baby. I will not give up though! I want his butt outside.

I taught Peanut recall because he can undo the clips too easy.

How successful is that? Do you feel comfortable enough that Peanut won't fly away? Where do I learn to teach Dozy that? I'd be interested. That would be awesome to be able to recall Dozy. I bet that takes a long time to do. Good for you!
