Default What do you think of this Cage?

Huge Bird Cage

What do think of this cage for Echo? It's just like the dome but has a play top instead.

My Baby has one real similar. The only thing with the play top is that she is always up there. I only put food and water in her cage or she would never go in it. Check out the bar spacing.

It doesn't look that huge in the first picture - maybe 32 x 23? I am not a fan of play tops. What happened to the bird that was housed in it (if you can get the truth). If that is the case, you can probably get a new one for almost the same price with no worry about disease.

It appears to be a prevue hendryx cage. I carry those in my store and the price is pretty expensive for a used cage.

I agree about finding out what happened to that bird. I like the playtops, and almost all my cages but my double macaw cages have them.

I like the cages at Welcome to The Feather Farm

This is what I keep most my amazon sized birds in:

What's wrong with Echo's current cage (Harley's old one, right?)? It looks much larger than that one. I'm also not a big fan of play tops. My reasoning can be found in this thread:
Cage size for a CAG??

The cage housed a U2, which they sold due to having their first child. The new owners already had a cage and had no need for it. He bought it at PetLand for over $500. The play top is removable (which I will probably take it off but will at least remove the tray). It's in perfect condition and he'll send me more pictures. I've wanted a playtop cage for Echo for some time. He doesn't chew the molding and I would love for himto be out and about all day. Unfortuatly, the dome top he is in doesn't allow for toys on top, etc. It's the almost the same dimensions as the dome (excapt the dome goes all the way to the floor) so there's still lots of room.

Here's the dimensions:
24in deep
40in wide
Total height: 60in
Actual cage height: 40in

The Dome is:

28in deep
42 (or 48, I forget) in wide
62in in total height

If we do buy this cage, we'll pack away the dome and put it into storeage (for another bird, lol). It's still very roomy for Harley, and as much as I love the corner cage, there are some things about it I hate. For one it's impossible to clean (how I got stuck in it). But, I do love it for other reasons, one being there's tons of room. Anywho, the guy will email me back with pics and if we still like it, we'll buy it. He's VERY negotiable, so I'm thinking we could get it for a steal, but, you never know...

I don't like playtops for two reasons: (1) the bird never feels as though he is "away" from his cage. He goes out of the cage and plays on the top. I truly believe it is better to have a play stand far away from the cage. (2) Full spectrum lighting is difficult (but doable). You have to do the floor stands that shine in from the side which is not natural. For the most part, the light is always in their eyes.

Your post and mine crossed. If it comes with a dome top,why not use the dome top? That would be my recommendation...

The size is another debate. (Promise I won't start one!).

I too firmly believe that birds need time away from their cage. Echo has a play stand that goes everywhere and he's on it for several hours (normally, recently he hasn't due to all the construction work). What I have been wanting is a flat top cage or one with a play stand. If I buy it, I will either keep romoving the tray or take the top off completly and make a table top play stand with it. Either way. What I like about it though it that Echo can be out and about all day. Harley's corner cage, which is flat topped, is my fav. She loved to run across it and play. My only issue is that she is very hard to catch on it. So, we still aren't sure. I really like it and if I get is, the play top will probably come off to make it a flat top for him to play on.

Like I said though, we still havn't looked at the cage, so it's up in the air. We don't yet have full specturum lighting, but they are in a sun room and we can open the top windows and let the natural sunlight (unflitered) come in.

Thanks for all of yall's opinions! I'll let you know when we go look at it what happens. I am so picky about quality, so if it's no good, there's no way we're getting it!

Kathie- we have a dome top- that's what Echo is currently. I don't know if these are the 100% accurate demesions, (said he would send them in email) and he thinks it could be larger, but doesn't know (everything was his wife's). So, I'll let you know. But, we're on the fence. Like I said, when we go to look at it, we'll decide if it's worth buying or not...
