Default Under Cage Food/Poop Protection

I had to take the seed guard's off of Ollie's cage for the move. I decided to see how it would go without them, mainly because my bedroom is so much smaller and I need to conserve space. It's also nice to be able to roll her cage right outside, and with the seed guards her cage won't fit through any of the doors.

Anyways...so far so good. With her hoopball hanging about a foot from her cage, she doesn't feel the need to sit on top of it, thus eventually pooping off the side and onto the floor. However, I'd still like to have something under her cage for accidents. I was thinking something similar to an office chair mat- the hard plastic that I can easily roll her cage on and off of. I can't seem to find one that doesn't have the odd cut out to allow it to fit around a desk (not to mention the horrific price tag on most of them). What do you all use, if anything?

Camille I just started using this. Walmart fabric department has bolts of plastic standing on a display. About 5 grades. REally cheap like 1.50 - 2.50 per yard. I bought the heaviest weight. It's like what you'd use for tables and stuff like oilcloth.

In fact I have it on my dining room table too. Of course Piper loves walking around the perimeter chewing tiny holes in it.

I LOVE THIS STUFF. I have it under cages, on walls, and under the budgie cage where for some odd reason the hen insists on hanging her butt off the side. In fact their room is half plastic stuff. Since they are free all day every day flying around in there.

It wipes RIGHT off and you can even vacuum it if you have a light weight vacuum. I bought a 34.00 "swivel sweeper" that really works well, surprisingly for quick seed and junk.

I can wheel the Plet cage on and off but sometimes the wheel will get stuck but it's so worth it. I just lift it up a mini amount to wheel onto the plastic in that case. And I dont have to tack it down. Their cage is big, 32 x 21x 60

I also have it bent up the side of the wall covering the trim on the floor and somehow it just sticks up there protecting the trim.

can you tell I like it? LOL

LOL that reminds me when I first got Piper she was learning to eat real food. She LOVED LOVED LOVED veggies but especially loved fruit. I dont have to tell you she flung it everywhere. Ate like a Lory and I suspect they are nectar eating outside.

Anyway she got mad eating in her travel cage all the time so I wheeled the giant cage in the kitchen and tried wrapping it with Press N Seal. Every morning the same routine and night too. I was covered with berries, everything and so was the kitchen. This 4 inch bird! So the Press N Seal was born.

LOL it was so funny, it actually worked. But of course it wasnt worth it really.

So finally she learned to eat normally, and still uses a "napkin" of a booda 3 inch rope with a knot on the end LOL. She always wants some kind of napkin whenever she eats. Toby could care less, surprise, right?

I sent that photo into a Martha Stewart contest for "unique uses for Press N Seal" but I never heard anything.

We use the office floor mats and also use the stickdown runners that they use in showcasing model homes where there is alot of traffic. It can be wiped off and then pulled up and thrown away with new replaced. I like using it on stairs and heavily traffic areas where our birds might poop on carpet. You can cut it any size you need. We buy ours at Home Depot.

Luckily I have no wall-to-wall carpet, and the living room has a braided rug in the center but only vinyl floor where the cages are. I just use the dust-buster every day around the cages, and wipe down every couple of days with vinegar and water. I tried the no seed catcher thing for a few months, but ultimately went back to using them although Chico's cage could probably do without one. He's a surprisingly neat eater.

Karen, I've decided that this is probably the way to go for under Ollie's cage. However, I can't have it any longer than about 4.5 feet and this is 3x6. Is this something I could cut to make shorter? I'm assuming I could, but thought if you used these you could probably tell me for sure.

We use the plastic carper runners. We find them at Home Depot or Lowes. I use 2 slightly overlapped under the cages. They're easy to cut if you need to.
