My birds do well with leaving the night time roost, so to speak. They look forward to coming out of their regular cages in the morning (Kady has a double macaw cage and Kita has a 30x40 sleeping cage) We just choose to use a play cage instead of a play perch, for their 'out' time.
I feel the play cages give them so much more room than a play stand ever could. They do use every inch of those cages, climbing and hanging off of everything. Whereas when I was using play stands, they would just sit there.
They do have time on play stands also, but usually only when they join us for dinner or to dry off from a shower.
So in essence I view their play cages as a play perch, all be it a big one and at night they are put into their sleep cages.
