i don't think there is such thing as an EASY travel cage with a macaw but it's the easiest option i have found thus far. it fits nicely into the back seat of my car, gives ivy lots of room to move around, has a plastic tray, and handles on the side.

You know, I brought my Rosa to the vet today, and I saw a woman who had made a carrier for her huge cat with a huge tail, out of two plastic laundry baskets. She had the cat in one, and the other was fitted on top like a big, domed lid. She used some plastic ties to bind it together. It was really ingenious, and I thought, 'That would be great for the macaws'. Except of course it's cold here and these laundry baskets were sort of open, lattice work affairs. She told me that her cat's tail was so huge (and it was!) and he didn't like it squished up, so she invented this concept. I was so impressed! (you guys must think I get easily impressed but people who are inventive, ask good questions, are very knowledgeable and/or are skilled and resourceful are impressive, don't you think?)

oh that is such a good idea, i never would have thought of something like that. ivy doesn't like her tail squished either (who would!), but she would chew right through a laundry basket. great idea for a kitty though, or maybe a macaw less destructive than my little booger.

i agree, i love good questions and neat ideas!
