I was recently given one for small birds but I haven't taken the guys out in it yet. Mine has a small problem staying upright when not on - this can be a bit unnerving for everyone - it kind of collapses. I imagine the wire mess & cage with cover are best all round & certainly don't have the same porblem.

The Macaw sized one looks intimidating & awkward it you're not a big guy. I think if I had a Macaw I'd want it to ride on my arm, wearing a harness [I know most of you would love to get your big guys into a harness!]. - very pricey.

Hmmmm...next time the military moves us they will pay for something to transport the fids in....one each maybe...hehehe!

i was told never to transport a bird with perches in the carrier. because they get vertigo easy and they lose their sense of balance really easy. and because of the loss of balance could seriously injury themselves. so the lady i got my birds with uses the plastic grids for lighting. the stuff they use for droplights. cut it to size and shape of the inside of the carrier. then get a small piece of pvc pipe cut into 1/2 in to 1in pieces so you have at least 4 for each corner to keep the grate off the floor. easy clean up too.

These are really cute. Do you guys think they're big enough for a sleeping cage though? Say if I took Ryan out over night somewhere, he could sleep in it?

i dunno, i wouldn't use one myself for a sleep cage. artemis might be ok in one, but not ivy.

It may work for just sleeping, but you may be better off just getting an inexpensive plastic dog carrier and setting it up with a perch, dishes, etc.

Hmm, that's not a bad idea either.

ivy currently has a rabbit-type cage for her travel cage. it's long so it has room for her tail. i put a beach towel at the bottom of it and strap it in to the back seat of the car.

We have an extra large plastic dog crate outfitted with perches and dishes and toys that we leave at my FIL's house and use it for the fids when we have to go out....Ok only Maple cuz she wanders...Harley is fine on the play stand...altho he is starting to fly now..might be time to get a 2nd one going..LOL.

But they do work quite well.
