Thanks! | Randi, I applaud your concern. I also would be concerned if a bird was chewing on powder coating, no matter its size. I've been down that road of having to treat a bird for Zinc Toxicity so it's something I'm very cautious about.
I recently had Lead and Zinc testing done on a generic cage I bought a few months ago and it came back with unacceptable levels of Lead. TEN times the acceptable amount! |

#44 | | | Re: Legacy Cages : SS Made in the USA It is very possible that Legacy cages will come to be regarded as highly as Freedom, perhaps even more so. Who can say? According to their website, they will begin taking orders in February, and start shipping cages in March. This implies that production has perhaps not even started. So I don't think its so much a case of penalizing someone for being new, its simply recognizing the record of an established company that has received some high praise and good customer reviews for their product, regardless of where it might be made (and I have no idea where they are manufactured). Were I in the market and had time to wait, I would be very tempted to look into Legacy cages further, from their specs it sounds like they will have a fine product, but as far as I know, no one has seen one yet. |

About the only thing I can think of that Freedom has over Legacy is the fact that they've been in business for a while, but why would you penalize Legacy for being new? Legacy is either equal or better in EVERY other aspect. Where are the Freedom Cages made? I hope it's not China! Sorry, I'm a bit confused at how you came to your decision. It seems pretty cut & dry to me - If you're going to spend that much money on a cage, why would you choose a factory made imported cage over a hand-made domestic cage?
Cathy | i still haven't seen photos of legacy cages so at this point in time i have no reason to "choose" them. i still have no idea what their feeding system looks like or the overall appearance of the model. also, there is the size issue. if i was to get a custom made from legacy at the size i want, it would be roughly the same price as the freedom model at that price.
i've been talking with the owner of freedom for a while now and i think he's a great guy. i love his company and customer service. the cages are german made, as i understand it. and yes, i would prefer to buy from an established company over a brand new one.
i am a bit confused as to why you are so concerned with my personal decision on my cage. everyone needs to make decisions based on what's right for them and their animals. that's great that you love this new company, but i personally need more before i will purchase from them. |

Obviously your decision is yours, and it really doesn't matter to me at all what way you go. I'm just at the same point of the decision process as you & a couple of others in here, and I'm trying to understand where people leaning towards other brands are coming from. I just think that if Legacy comes through on everything they're showing on their site & everything they've told me via email they will be head & shoulders above anything else that's available right now.

Cathy | i think the simple fact that legacy currently has nothing to show is a big factor in that. no one has had experience with them outside of what people have heard in e-mails and on their website. until they release their line, there is really no way to compare them to another cage. right now, all we can do is take their word for everything...no photos, no customer reviews, only words. i am sure they have the potential to establish themselves just fine, but there are those of us that are buying in the next few months that would prefer an established company. like you said, "IF they come through". from what i've seen so far, i prefer freedom. |
