#11 | | | Re: Legacy Cages : SS Made in the USA Hi everyone, my name is Cathy and I just signed up to be on this forum. I actually found this forum page by searching for Legacy Cages at Google, because I'm "impatiently" awaiting the release of their cages. I originally found Legacy Cages about 2 weeks ago & immediately got on their email notification list. The email notification list is set up to let people know when pics, specs, etc are up at their site & also when they are open for orders. You get on that notification list by sending a blank email to notify@legacycages.com (at least that's how I did it).
After getting on the notification list I emailed them with a few questions (I've done SO MUCH research on SS Cages the past few weeks that I've really become a bit of an expert). I wanted to ask them some very specific questions about the cages and the guy I've been corresponding with is GREAT. His name is Dave and he's one of the owners I guess. Anyway, I was happy to learn that everything they use on the cages is USA Made, even the perches! Also, I was happy to learn that the Legacy Cages are a standard finish of stainless steel rather than the high polish ss. People that get high polish ss cages usually aren't happy with them because of the fact that if you have to scrub down a certain area it becomes duller than the rest of the cage. The only way to get it all to match again is to have it all polished again, and who wants to deal with that!? I was also happy to learn the largest model is made with 1/4" guage solid ss bars. That's thicker than 6mm and not even the toughest of birds can bend it.
Camelot, I'm sure your friend makes great cages and most of what I've heard about freedom has been positive. However, there are a couple of things I don't like about them. First, they have the high glossy finish. Not only can the polish become inconsistent looking on the cage, but I've also read that some birds are freaked out by that. They don't know if the birds see reflections, or flashes of light or what, but some birds have really lost their minds in mirror finish cages. The second thing I don't like is the price tag. The large freedom cage is well over $3k and the largest legacy cage is going to retail for about $1,000 less than that. According to the owner, MSRP is just under $3k, but the cage will retail in stores for around $2,200-$2,400 delivered.
Anyway, I do look forward to Legacy launching & I'll be sure to post pictures and my feelings about the cage after I get one.

You're right, the largest legacy cage is a bit smaller but not by too much. The freedom appears to be 48" x 36" x 66" inside & the Legacy is 46" x 34" x 56" inside. The freedom cage isn't enough bigger to make it worth over $1k more though. At least not in my mind.
Legacy may plan to do custom cages, I don't know. You'd have to write them and ask I guess.
According to Dave at Legacy the feeding systems are external, but they are made of all ss components instead of the plastic/acrylic. He said that they feature a solid bottom half that keeps spilled seeds inside the cage, but the top half is barred so your bird can look out while eating. It sounds like a slick set-up. I am excited to see them when the pics are up.
I think the biggest upside for legacy cages is the fact that they are actually hand-made one at a time right here in the USA. That's unbelieveable to me, I think every other brand name is either factory made, made outside of the states, or both. Dave said that the head metal worker over there at Legacy has 30 years of experience & he's overseeing all work done on the cages. That's pretty spectacular! The cages are built there, packaged there, and shipped straight to you from them. That's the case even if you end up buying from one of their online retailers. They don't get shipped by container to the manufacturer, then shipped to the retailer, and then shipped to you. He also said that each cage has custom packaging that makes it nearly impossible for damages to occur during shipping. That's great because I've had damaged parts on just about every single cage I've ever had shipped to me.
I'm so excited about them I can hardly wait, it's just what I've been looking for!

I have heard of Hy's snapping bars of the 506SS model and I don't want that happening with Ivy. Would they replace a panel of the cage free of charge down the road? |
