Karen, how did you fasten the ss wire mesh to the frame and what did your husband do for the door hinges?
|
Liz the SS mesh was fit into a channel that had been attached to the frame so it would look good inside and outside of the cage and also I didn't want any sharp edges showing. I'm not crazy that I have to clean out the channels every so often. If I had to do all over I might re-think it and attach it to the inside of the frame with SS washers. For the door hinges we chose a piano hinge so they would be hidden.

Do you think you saved a lot doing it yourself?

Each enclosure costs a little over $800 for the anodized aluminum tubing, connectors and SS fasteners. One 100' roll of 2X2 SS mesh was 600.00 plus shipping which ran me about $150. The one roll of mesh was enough for both enclosures. So roughly they each cost under $1200. You could do it cheaper if you didn't use channel to put the mesh ends into.
I think they did end up being a little cheaper than if purchased. I was pricing a Powder Coat enclosure in that size range for right about $1800 - $2000. The piece of mind knowing that each piece is safe and it is constructed well, is priceless.
