Default Cage type question

Do any of you folks have one of those cages that opens up on the top and you place a perch there?? Do you like it better or worse than the kind with the play top?
Thanks
Mark

I have one and dont really care for it. Its another way they can escape, and if they are on the perch and it collapses for any reason they can get real hurt..I prefer a perminent play top..check out

they have some good cages, and are good to PC people

I have one but I've never used the open top. Heard too many stories of birds getting hurt when it collasped. I much rather have a permanent playtop, just wish my boys would love it as much as I do!

I also have one and I just don't like it at all, I havn't had it opened in a long time. Playtops are much better in my opinion.

I agree with the rest- they are too dangerous. Ollie has a permanent play top, but I removed it to hang her f.s. light above her cage. Her next cage will be a dome top like my tiel's cage. She has no need for a play top on top of her cage when she has about 5 other gyms to play on.

WOW, thanks! Those are what I needed to hear. I expect that Hairy will have a play area in our living room. (wife doesn't know that yet.). So, I will probably go with a dome top. I expect Hairy will be more of a family burd since we don't ever know what mood Cecil will be in. When he's good, he's very good. When he's bad, he hurts.

I agree with the others, I have read that they can be very dangerous. Mine all have permanant playtops (well actually they can be removed if you wanted).

I too have heard of them collapsing. This mainly happens with larger birds, but it has occured with smaller ones too. I say, don't take the risk; get either a flat top (Echo has this) a dome (what Harley has) or a play top. I want to get a play top for my ekkie (if I ever get her) so she could be out and about. I have never had one, but most everyone with an eclectus says they are great and thier birds love them.
