Re: Bird On the Rocks Flagstone Perches I emailed the site and got this reply:
Hi Cindy,
This stone is quarried right out of the ground. The quary is about 100
feet deep where this stone is coming from now. That means that they have dug through 100 feet of solid bedrock to get to this point in the quary. The stones are basically calcium carbonate. I am sure there are some minerials in it as there are minerials in just about everything that is grown or formed over thousands or millions of years.
There are many fossils in the stone I get out of the quarry so that should tell you something about how old it is. It would be impossible to test everyone of the perches so testing even just one of them makes no sense to me at all. These come right from nature, I do powerwash each one with a very high preasure wash to get off any drilling dust and any dirt from being handled by humans either in manufacture or in the quary process.
I understand your concern and if you feel uncomfotable with the stone perches don't buy them.
Keep in mind your birds will not be consuming these perches. They are to hard for any of the parrots to chew on. They are not sand stone that will crumble away.
I would be much more concerned about the feed, water, cages, wood perches, toys, and what ever else is in your birds environment before ever thinking about these flagstone perches.
Kind Regards,
John |
