    Default Boatbilled Heron

No, He's not a Parrot- But he IS a bird!

I did this one from a reference photo that I took at the Lowry park zoo in Tampa. We make sure that we 'visit' this guy each time we go there- He lives in the free flight aviary, and hangs out in the same spot all the time! He always looks a bit grumpy to me... I finally got a few pictures of him with his crest raised!

    This one is a Miniature, about 2" x 3"-

    (Actual Size)

    (Enlarged)

It is Colored Pencil on Bristol Smooth. I'm getting some work ready for upcoming miniature art shows- Hopefully this one will make the 'cut'...

Grumpy perhaps, but a very handsome guy. Great job capturing him, Andrew, I love the colors.

Great job, as usual! About how long on average does one that size take you to finish?

    Thanks...

Camile- Anywhere from 4 hrs on up, Sometimes as many as 10, depending on the level of detail!!

A lot of people think that working this small saves a lot of time- But it really doesn't... It takes me JUST as long to do a miniature as a larger drawing sometimes!
