Default Wing cover ideas please.

Peggy is really feeling the cold this winter. Her wings of a morning a very cool to the touch.

She has her jumper but I need something that will cover her wings as well.

If anyone can come up with some sort of pattern that will allow her the movement of her wings but give her coverage it would be much appreciated. I can make the garment, I just need ideas.

At the moment she has been moved into the lounge where the wood fire is shut down overnight to keep it semi warm. It is a combustion heater (all I have) you put wood and briquettes on, close it down, it keeps the chill off, overnight. If you don't do that, it will go out.
Our temps are 1c to -1c overnight, that is outside. Yesterday morning I checked the temp in the house it was 8c.
Not warm enough for Peg's. In the morning I get her and cuddle her in my dressing gown.
Her cage is covered with a double thickness blanket overnight.

Only thing I do have is a heatlamp, one that has a red globe. Do you think I should set that up over her cage?

How bout a nylon stocking?
Heat lamp would have to be pretty far away from her cage as they get pretty hot.

I can't wait to see what kind of responses you get on this one Sue.

Sweet Peggy! Are you chilly? I have a ceramic disk that screws in like a light bulb, but it doesn't "light up" in any way. Just puts off warmth. I found it in the reptile section of a pet store. I used it outside for my doves when we would get a freezing night, which wasn't often. I will send it to you if you think it would help her. It is not big - 3x3 inches. I like the nylon idea Susan! I'll will think further on that! K&OP!!

The first thing I thought of was a heating disk or light... and just position it so she can easily move away, but also, so that she cannot get so close she inadvertently burns herself. I'd imagine her skin is easy to damage. I'd have a temp gauge right under the lamp, and then again on the "cool" side of the cage to moniter it. Just an idea!! Hope you can come up with a good plan!!

I think a no light heat lamp would work, or maybe a knitted jersey with glove arms. I use hot water bottle between 2 cardboard boxes for my babies, how about a sleeping box with perch one side open as a bedroom for her.

Mittens!
You could attach them over her back with those little clips/stretchy things.

Or a cape that could drape over her and be clipped to her jumper in the front.

What about making wing covers out of socks as well use velcro to keep it attached to he sock buddy.

I like the idea of the ceramic heat bulb. Do they make them in Australia Sue? Would you be able to use one from the US?

What about making her a fleece sleep tent??? I have them for all of my birds even though it doesn't get very cold here in West Texas. I sure hope you find something to keep sweet Peg warm.

Maybe whole baby socks cut & then stitched/buttoned to the 'shoulder' part of the main sock? or thumbs from knit gloves instead?

Maybe you need to approach a charity that has knitters who make baby hats for the hospitals - our Seniors do things like that. Perhaps a clever knitter could come up with an outfit.
