Default PVC Glue?

When making the PVC stand is it safe to use that PVC glue or does it have to be screwed together?
My husband thought about filling the base with sand to give it some more weight and the glue would seal it.

Thanks!

PVC glue is toxic in the liquid form, once it drys it should be fine as it will be joining the parts together and will not be exposed. The sand in the base is a great idea.

I glued some of my stands together without problem. I just made sure all the glue was left to the inside of the PVC. That way there is no chance of the birds getting to it dry or not. The last stand I screwed together. It was a lot of work.

I just hammer the parts together, and screw them where I think necessary. When Hammered, there is no way those suckers are coming apart!

I stay away from the glue.

Well, I screwed mine together simply because its huge, and if I ever need to move, or move it somewhere in a vehicle I can take it apart somewhat. I just don't trust glue...

Also, if you do use the glue, don't use it anywhere near the birds. The fumes aren't good for them either. I agree that it would be fine once dry if not exposed. Interesting thought with the sand, hmm.....

I work with pvc and pvc glue a lot. Never anywhere near the birds and if not done in a well ventilated area, you'll feel some of the effects also.

One thing I've noticed, if your glueing the pvc together, fine. If at a later date you decide to drill a hole in it, keep it away from the birds for awhile. The fumes are still trapped inside if not given the opportunity to be released. You can once again introduce it to your birds once given ample opportunity for the vapors to clear.

Thanks Lara, I never would have thought of that!
