can't wait to hear about the results - with pita you might want to use corn instead of the peas, and maybe you can add some grated apple since he's such a sweet boy

i'm soo glad he likes it..... great. it's good for him too, so he can actually munch away as much as he likes

valo stopped drinking the mega green after pita left - guess it was just the jealousy thing... bella still loves the stuff though

Well, I did it. I finally caved & made the birdie bread. So far, I think the bird likes it. I substituted of course - since I'm like Jim & love to do it. We didn't have apple juice so I used 100% Cran-grape juice & all the applesauce we had was cinnamon so I used just a hair over a 1/2 cup of it. Also I omitted the rice (didn't wanna have to cook it) & used Goldenfeast Petite Hookbill mix instead of seeds or pellets.

He ate some yesterday, has ingnored it so far today. I neglected to mention that I added about 2 tablespoons of cooked sweet corn. Oh well, I'll try again this afternoon. (feeding him some - not making more - too hot to cook.)

Try mixing different things in with it. This morning I mixed it with scrambled eggs, corn & peas and in the afternoon I put fruit in it. I also have this vegie juice which he loves, thanx to Bee....it's called Mega Green, and I mix that with it as well. I give him the birdie bread everyday, and try to mix it up to make it different. He loves it, and I know he's getting good stuff.

I found this on another website. It is really simple to make (which is good for me since I'm not cooking often and therefore out of practice - life as a student without roommates will do that for you), and Valo and Bella just love it! (even BF is now baking birdie bread... )

So, I figured I'd share for those who also like it simple:

1 cup of plain yellow corn meal
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1 egg
1/2 cup of apple sauce (I use unsweeted, organic)
1/2 cup of apple juice (pasteurized)
1/2 cup of peas, broccoli etc - also very popular, (bell) peppers
1/3 cup of grated carrot
1/3 cup of cooked white or brown rice
1/3 cup of pellets or seeds

preheat oven to 350deg. mix above incredients well, and spread in a 8x8 glass pan. bake for 35min. DONE

i cut it into 1-2cm squares and the freeze it. the squares can be thawed seperately by heating in the microwave for 30sec.

valo and bella both love, love it... i like it because it's simple and doesn't use any premixed mixes (i don't like those for myself, so i don't buy them)
try a piece... it's actually really tasty (i stay away from the pellets though )

Hi Bee

I saw a CAG on another board eating something that looked yummy. Found out it was birdy bread stuffed in an ice cream cone! All I need to do is find a birie bread receipt that is moist enough that can be stuffed in an ice cream cone.
