Liz, sorry when I posted before I didn't realize Gus was the new Parrotlet, I thought it was one of the Budgies. I'm glad you are forgiving her.
In re-reading your OP I noticed something about putting her back in the cage in a hut. That's where Pickles attacked her? So I want to point out that it was the middle of the night, and Pickles has been through a very tough physical and hormonal and emotional month. Changing homes, having the Vitamin A deficiency which in itself is life threatening, calcium depleted, and egg laying almost egg bound.
Especially being exposed to all the breeding with the Budgies and paired Tiels, even her still flying into nest boxes. So I'm very sure that she had no idea what was going on. Remember they cant even see in the dim/dark.
I have no idea what happened but a two month old Parrotlet is barely even weaned let alone having any skills or ability to communicate with a 3 month old hormonal hen. Not to mention when injured and in the dark. Not trying to make you feel worse but I'm trying to take Pickles side here. I dont see that she is "going around trying to kill other birds". That cage was her home and she didnt know what was going on. I think she is just trying to stay alive herself and cant deal with her hormones yet. She should calm down and become better adjusted as soon as they subside.
The hut may or may not be a good thing. It might be a safety place for her OR a breeding egg laying trigger. It's hard to say. I think I might go for a safe cage cover instead in her condition. Safe meaning not chewable or having strings that might catch her legs or toes or beak in them.
