If it's a rattler - maybe her death will be a warning - to alert you to a nest or something - that everyone needs to stay away from: pet or human.

We don't have rattlers any more in Southern Ontario - to my knowledge [they are however not encouraging capture or killing anymore, so they may return from the North]. We did have a Garter snake nursery/hibernation site on the east side of the house - entrance beside the wall. The old stone well was also near the east side.

I am not going to look around. Where I found her was beneath a tree at the edge of the woods. I only went back there to feed her and give her water. Now that she is gone, I have no reason to go back there looking for anything.

i feel for you losing an animal is a terrible thing. may gypsy rose fly free and true at the rainbow bridge.
