Default Midnight Star- Rest in Peace

My daughter's pet rabbit was killed by some dogs in the neighborhood sometime Friday night/early Sat.am. Star was kept in a rabbit hutch outside. the dogs somehow flipped the cage, never got dirtectly to her but mangled all of her legs and paws pretty bad. Now I have a girl that doesn't want to sleep in her bedroom because Star was by her bedroom window. Happened to be that Anna fell asleep on the couch Friday night so we didn't her anything. These dogs are Malumutes. Have been trying to get ahold of the Animal Control. We got Star in Jan. Midnight Star, sorry you had such a tragic death Oct 07-June 08.

Ahh the poor thing & poor you [both].

The dogs aren't to blame - their owners are - why were they loose at night? They are of course just dogs & hopefully your daughter will see this eventually - they didn't mean to cause her rabbit to suffer. Neither did she or you have meant this to happen. A lesson is learned for the next bunny - a cage that can resist such an attack & perhaps is higher up [?]. For the next pet - you can offer a better success I am sure.

To lose a pet is hard - my sympathies. We take them in & they become our responsibility. They also benefit in many cases from our care and concern. I'm sure her bunny was well loved.

I'm very sorry. I hope the owners of the dogs can be located and held accountable. Rest in peace, Midnight Star. Thoughts and prayers go out to Anna, peace to you as well.

Thank ya'll. The animal Control called back. There is nothing we can do. if the dogs get out again we have to take pictues of the dogs in our yard and also have a witness. Then try to get the dogs in our car and bring them down to the Human Society. Then it will go to court where, we have to prove the dogs had gotten out and came to our yard. All the while the owners can plead that one of the kids could have come into the yard and let the dogs out.The A/C lady said she had gone over there this am for another reason and the lady was rude to her. in SC the dog/cat owners have more rights. So in other words nothing can be done. The most they would get to pay is $500/dog. If the dogs go after somebody(out in the streets or somebodies elses yard) it has to be in the person's yard before anything can be done, God forbid if you should hurt the dog or kill it trying to defend yourself; then you'd be the one to get in trouble and not the animals owner; cause you would have to prove the dogs came after you in your yard. aaaarrrrrggggghhhh111111

Things are so different in England. Dogs are NOT allowed to roam and must wear collars all the time. If dogs are seen on the street they are picked up and taken to kennels. If not claimed and heavy fine paid within 7 days they are put up for adoption. If not adopted within 7 days they are destroyed, The laws on dogs are so strict here, I could be walking my dog on the lead and if someone rang the police and said my dog threatened them whether she had or not they have the power to seize her and destroy her with no evidence. Its a scary business having dogs now especially if they are classed as "dangerous" breeds. On the other hand cats are allowed to roam the streets with no control and there are plenty of stray cats around
