Thank you, like I said, the woman claimed I was not "qualified" to have parrots and took both Bud and Chico (my only 2 at the time). Bud was returned because he was a "killer" and unfortunately I did not have any proof of ownership other than photos that Chico was mine. She has stolen before and I'm sure is still trying...stay away from any Shannon in Michigan although she may go by a different name.

I'm not quite sure I understand either. But I am terribly sorry. I hope that one day Chico is returned to his rightful home. How long ago was he taken?

Oh I would've kicked butt. How could she take him from you? I don't understand either. Who is this woman?

I am so sorry. I hope you get him back!

I am a bit lost, how could someone just take your bird? did you call the police? I would have had this womens neck in my hands if she tried to take my birds.

I actually broke my foot after she slammed it in the door trying to get him back. It is the most terrifying thing a bird mom could experience without a doubt. In many ways it was worse than loosing an animal to old age or illness.

This woman was a pet sitter, boarded birds in her home. I called references and everything, but did not have a contract. Sadly she aquired 1 DYH Amazon, 2 U2s, and multiple tiels just that I know of this way. Now she is out of buisness and no one really knows where she is. The police were called, but sent it to Animal Control, she had his cage, his belongings, just about everything. It was within my first 6 months of bird ownership and I was very naive. I got an attorney and could have taken her to small claims but I have nothing other than a few pictures to prove he was mine (Chico was given to me after being found in a vacant apartment).

Since I "willfully gave" her Chico the police could not file a stolen property report. Animal Control could do nothing without a contract or some sort of petsitting agreement. It was my word against hers and with the bird, the cage, and all his supplies in her house it was case closed. I did file a report after she broke my foot (my big toe), but again my word against hers I was breaking and entering...police told me I would do best to stay away because now it looked alot like I was trying to steal her bird. I have never been so hurt, sick, hopeless, and traumatized my entire life. I hope to never experience that kind of anxiety ever ever again.

How horrible! That is totally unreal. Amazing what some people are capable of. How long has Chico been gone now? I'm with Barb, I would've had her neck. But it sounds like you did everything you could do to get him back without getting arrested!

This is truly a terrible story. I'm really sorry Flock Mom.

I am sorry, but what the police told you is absolutely ludicrous! Just because she has the bird and the cage and you 'willfully' gave them to her, it doesn't mean that there is nothing you can do. If that was the case, then people that borrow an expensive tool would be able to keep it because now they have the tool and the box it came in and the owner 'willfully' gave it to them! As to their 'advice' to you to leave the whole thing alone... it's not only incredibly unethical and unprofessional of them but also completely ridiculous! What possible reason could you have had for breaking and entering her house? The DA would have never taken it to court and, besides, I seriously doubt she would have pressed charges, people with dirty consciences shy away from any kind of involvement with the law. And even if you did not have a receipt of purchase for the bird, that means nothing! I don't have a single receipt of purchase for any of the birds I have. And you must have had medical records of him under your name. Or you could have gotten an affidavit from the person who found and/or gave you the bird in the first place. You could have also gotten affidavits from friends, relatives, neighbors, and anybody who had seen the bird in your property prior this incident. And if she had done this in the past and with other people, you could have gotten affidavits from them too and prove that this was her MO. And you could have parked yourself in front of her house with a sign reading "ANIMAL THIEF" or posted her picture with it under it in every single supermarket bulletin board 10 miles around. There is always something that can be done! I realize that all this is water under the bridge but, in the future, don't panic and think things through because, in this life, the only way to get things done is to keep at it and not give up.
