Default Introducing fresh food

I am hoping to get some of the wisdom of those who have done much more of this than me. As you all know we have had Keke 2 weeks today. I have been introducing fresh food into her diet. In her previous home the only fresh food she got was the occasional fresh fruit and ate mostly seed and peanuts. I have replaced the peanuts right away as I don't think they are safe. So my question is although she accepts most any new food we have tried I don't want to overwhelm her system. I tried scrambled eggs and i think I when I put some veg in I put too much in should I go plain first then slowly add other things she likes. They had a bit of pasta with some fruit in for lunch today. My husband is starting to complain that I do more cooking for the fids than him . She really enjoyed lunch and ate most of it. She is gaining weight every week and we are only giving her the seed that she lived on in her old home as a treat. When she get her fresh food in her perch dish she will come running when she see me with it and I am taking it as a good sign. She is also eating her pellets more and more each day. Any suggestions anyone can give to make this change less painful for her will be welcomed.

Gail it's just try try again. That's about it. It can take months for them even to try a new food. My two sometimes have a food offered to them a dozen times or more before they will even attempt a nibble. It can take forever....just keep introducing new things. One thing at a time is not a bad idea so you can figure out easier what she is eating and what she is not. Things mixed together tend to get harder to determine. Although I do feed mine stuff all mixed together...Maple steals the rice/grains/pasta...and Harley wants the corn/peas/beans...LOL...just have to figure her out.

Good Luck!

I would think it good to just try her on anything she wants to take. The babies that I raise I offer anything on the good list, they readily eat it all because they have not become suspicious yet and I the mom are to be trusted.

It is a very good sign for her to run to the dish to inspect. Some people mix all food together very well so that the bird can't pick and choose. It is any easy way to sneak in new items. This only works if the birdie eats soft or cooked food in the first place. Sometimes the chop size or the way the food is presented also matters. Hanging up bigger bits may also encourage to try.

The important thing is to make sure she is actually eating, and not tossing out the food. I mix seeds into the cooked food.

Keep at it is all I have to say. I know it took an awful lot of perseverance for me to get Winkie to eat carrots. He likes 'em raw & shaved thin.
It took about 3 mths total for him to accept that carrots were food. *sigh* I think I tried every conceivable way to cut them & even when I found out how he liked them cut it still took time for him to start eating them.
Birds! LOL
Try serving new foods in different ways - cut it thick or thin, cook it a little, shred it, etc.

I hope this helps you.

I had a pionus once that didn't want fresh foods so I would grate them up really fine and he seemed to like that and would eat a bit at least. My Gipper would eat nails if I did and he would say "give the bird a little!" ha!

Thanks for all the advise. I tried a plain scrambled egg and she seemed to really like it. so I Think I have to move a little slower. Our green cheek doesn't like anything new food or toys unless we are eating or playing with it. With him I often have to put it on our plate and he thinks he is getting away with taking some of our food and as he eats so little it will take sometime for both of them. It is nice to know other have had problems makes me feel better and it helps to know to keep trying the same food different ways. Being here is so nice non-bird people just don't understand some of the worries that new parrotparents go through
