I remember those photos from your photo site - yuk - now I know the whole story - poor you. Hope they're all gone.

As you get used to each other I think things will change - every month there will be a new challenge. I try & offer a variety of things for my Budgies to play on. Some are definite favourites but even they get changed. You could try to make a new gym & suddenly it may be a favourite.

I have had issues with getting them to bed. Laker went thru a rebellious stage that lasted about 2 months. He finally acknowledged that going to bed meant some comforting foods & some quiet time. At one point I made him fly a lot before bedtimes. When he was an only Budgie he would still be full of beans before bed.

Rio is often rebellious at bedtime. It has nothing to do with a favourite toy or boing. He will be left to ponder his aloneness while Laker enjoys his treats in his cage. Some nights he goes in on his own but other nights we have to offer him dried grass stems. I'm almost out! - bring on Spring.

All the best.

here is the update on "boing" we put it in the cage and moved her ring thingy out side of the cage she has decided that the boing is to play on and not to sleep on so we put it back on the outside she comes down when asked and now goes to bed easier in the evenings. I am guessing that she was just happy to have it back. She has also decided that we are much more fun to play with either on or off the boing. She has taken to scaring the you know what out of our youngest son by swinging around on it and hanging by her beak he thought she was going to fall so know everytime he comes near she does it to see the reaction it is so funny. They learn so quickly what works for them.

Thats awesome! Being a person who was terrorized as a child with roaches in my bed, I have such relief that your baby is now free of them also.

Roaches need warmth to breed, so if you ever have in infestation think of that. Make your house COLD and in three weeks or so, they should die. lol. Unless they find an electrical impliances to nestle on and breed. lol

Thats scarey and gross (Im not afraid or grosse dout by them, I infact love bugs ) for the poor bird. I dont see how anyone could let thier bird live in such FILTH! :*(

Bleach water also kills roaches & eggs! Trust me, I live in Florida.

Having lived in both Florida and New York City, especially when it was the king city of roaches, I do not use combat, but instead mix boric acid and powdered sugar. I sprinkle it inside cabinets and wherever the places are that roaches emerge from. I keep it far away from my birds. In my experience this has been the best roach fighter ever. They love the sugar, ingest the boric acid and then go back to wherever they live and die. Other roaches eat them, and they die too. In my old apartment, I lived next to a total slob, his apartment was roach infested, and as it was an old building, the entire place became roach infested. My apartment was the only one where the problem was under control. Good luck - it's great that you adopted that bird, Kudos to you.

for the suggestions. We have been having a hard time finding anything here. The locals have a pesticide ban here I think that when they passed it the way it was portrayed was on lawns just to control weeds not things like Roche's. While I rarely use any form of chemicals living in the country I don't like the thought of drinking the stuff in my well water. But there are times that you would like something for things like roaches. I have even had a hard time finding borax as I have used it in the past and although I find it doesn't always work but have had a hard time find the percentages of sugar to borax. So if you can post the ratios you use so that when I find the stuff can mix it right. We thought that we were ok then on Sat we found a large bug in the living room. So were a little freaked again. It has caused late nights with the flashlight looking in the dark for the little nasties haven't seen any so far but am not convinced they aren't lurking waiting to get me. If we have to call in the pros it will have to wait until summer when I can take the fids to the trailer for a week or so. We don't want to expose them at all and since it is -18 c at night and -8 during the day camping out is not an option here. Roaches are rare in this area so not much is in the stores even in the places were there is no ban. The larges places like Toronto have always had those kind of problems. I read an article from an bug guy(can't spell the proper name) and he said that in the first 20 years of his career he had never seen a bed bug but since the ban it has increased by 400 % in Toronto. He thinks the ban is part of the problem and the other thing is that people see these kind of bugs are seen as you being dirty and he has said you can bring them home from the store in a box. I said I hate bugs but I have to say I do love bugs and spend a lot of time looking at them outside where they belong. I am thinking that if I have to go to the pro's I might ask the former owner to pay for it as she was aware and just didn't think we would take the bird! Wrong but I would have left everything else behind. From everything everyone has told me the cage stored in the garage should be clear to sell in the spring.

I used to mix half powdered sugar and half boric acid. It should be well mixed. Boric acid doesn't work without the sugar, because it's the sugar they love, and they walk through it so the powder sticks to their legs. It takes a little time and they don't associate it with death as the death comes later...the real wipe out comes when other roaches eat the dead ones, and so it spreads through and kills the entire colony.
