Default Freddie's story

It all happened one day when my step mom was cruising through the classified's section and an ad caught her eye. It was two african greys for sale with a cage. After convincing my dad and the rest of the family, we decided to buy the "mating pair" of Cecile and Freddie.

Freddie was very shy, where as Cecile was very outgoing and talkative. Whenever Freddie wanted attention, Cecile would shreik and bite him, hogging the attention all to herself. When the DNA results came back male and male, it wasn't much of a suprise. Eventually Cecile, who we renamed Palmer, started attacking poor Freddie so badly that we would come home and he would be in the corner bleeding. It was obvious that one of them had to go.

We decided to sell Palmer, because he would be easier to rehome, and we didn't want Freddie to keep getting passed from home to home. When we finally found a great home for Palmer, it was just tackling the problematic and fearful Fred.

As it turned out, we were Freddie's fourth home. He had been abused badly in one of his first homes, and we suspect with water because he would shreik and try to fly away everytime he heard water running. Luckilly, he never started plucking.

I started sitting next to his cage everyday talking to him, and gradually he came closer.

Now, one year later, Freddie and I are the best of friends. He is still fearfull, but he has gotten so much better. He will actually climb down his cage, walk across the room, and try to climb down the stairs when I am downstairs watching a movie.

He is a great reminder that rescues can turn around, and become great birds.

We have their phone number, but haven't called since their last update. They said he was doing great, loves to be pet and cuddled. I think he's in a very good home.
