Default Marvin's Story

Marvin The Green-Cheek

Marvin was a baby Green-Cheek who had had a lot happen to him in his short life.

He lost a toe in the nest box, and he then suffered an accident in his next home (a bird rescue) that cost him most of his upper beak, and damaged his other toe so it stuck forward and made it hard for him to perch.

The vet said Marvin's beak may grow back. His bottum mandible needed regular beak-trims so it wouldn't grow straight up. He needed small budgie pellets to eat.

At the bird rescue, Marvin was terrified of the big birds. Since no one had time for him, he just hid under things his whole time there.

He was sent to me for training, rehab, and fostering. I made him a little toy out of polar fleece knotted together, and he cuddled under it every night. He would throw himself to the floor of his cage if you went near him. But within two days I had him sitting on my finger.

Marvin was clipped so he would cuddle in my hoodie and I'ld walk around the block to the corner store with him. It was so cute to see his little head poking out! He also loved sitting outside in his cage, or supervised hopping around on the lawn.

I forgot that he was just a temporary fid and I fell in love with him. But one day I decided to take him to the bird show my bird club was putting on and see if I could find him a home. A woman who was a teacher was very interested in him. Apparently she had a female green-cheek (I made it so a home with another similar sized conure was reccomended, because he loved my other conure Petrie) as well as budgies and finches.

Later on she filled out an adoption application, and Marvin had found a home. I was very sad to him go, but it was best for him. I picked him up to say goodbye, and he kissed me! He had never done that before! I guess he knew he was leaving. I sent his polar fleece toy with him, so he could remember me.

Here are some pics. In most of these he is wet from his water bowl.

So that is Marvin's story.

Aw, one reply? Marvin sounds like a sweet thing, I hope he is having the time of his life at his new home! I am sure he still loves the fleece toy, no doubt it's very comforting!!
